The Beginning of Diffeological Spaces

This is the story, as I remember it, of the beginning of diffeologies and diffeological spaces as “groupes et espaces différentiels" by Souriau and his team back in the 1980s. The goal of this small note is to emphasize how the individual concept of “espace différentiel" (that is, diffeological space) came up slowly as the fruit of a collective thinking and the needs of our specific mathematical examples and constructions, almost against Souriau’s tendency of favoring groups over spaces.
