Minimal surfaces, knots and braids
Abstract:
I will describe a class of knots called minimal knots which generalize algebraic knots. They are obtained by taking a minimal disk D (in the Riemannian sense) in R4 containing an isolated singular point p and intersecting D with a small 3-sphere.
These knots have a natural braid presentation. I will discuss these braids and show the examples we get by plugging them into knot software. This is joint work with Marc Soret.
